Icyuzuzo Clinic: Kigali, Rwanda
The Icyuzuzo Clinic in Kigali, Rwanda is actively working to overcome the obstacles for women and children to access antiretroviral treatment. While the Rwandan government is increasing resources for national HIV/AIDS care, the impact of the 1994 genocide is still manifested in the impoverishment of the Rwandan people, the massive loss of healthcare professionals, and the collapse of healthcare infrastructure. Many of those HIV-infected during the genocide—especially women who were the victims of rape—are now suffering from full-blown AIDS. Keep a Child Alive, in partnership with the Women's Equity in Access to Care and Treatment (WE-ACTx), are determined to confront the obstacles preventing women and children from receiving AIDS treatment in the capital city of Kigali by funding the scale-up of the Icyuzuzo Clinic. With KCA funding, the Icyuzuzo Clinic now provides lifesaving treatment to 700 children and parents.
